Durham police in the U.K. didn’t have to go far to strike the latest blow against the country’s burgeoning black market.
Thirteen men were taken into custody in the city in northeast England on Wednesday after an illicit grow-op was found just yards away from a police station. The site, located in an industrial complex, was believed to be an empty factory, but may have been given away by the powerful smell of pot emanating from the building.
“Officers have uncovered a large cannabis farm at an empty industrial unit on the Whitehouse Industrial Park, in Peterlee,” Durham police reported in a statement, according to the Sunderland Echo. The men “have been arrested on suspicion of the cultivation of cannabis and are currently in custody,” the statement noted.

Recreational cannabis is illegal in the U.K., but the government has approved the use medical marijuana for an extremely narrow range of conditions that has largely limited access to the medication.
