There are few better ways to kick off the day than with a fresh cup of joe and a doobie full of dro. As the stigmatization of cannabis use fades in light of increasing legalization, this wake-and-bake ritual has become much less taboo. Nowadays, we are seeing this unique concoction of THC and caffeine gain traction as viable cannabis products.
San Francisco artisanal coffee roasters Ritual Roasters are taking advantage of this perky combination, collaborating with the local edibles startup Somatik to bring marijuana-infused coffee to the Bay Area. The joint effort has led to the development of Somatik cannabis cold-brew, an eight-ounce bottle of THC-infused coffee.
According to Christopher Schroeder, the founder of Somatik, the artisanal coffee product contains a lower dose of cannabis than most other infused drinks on the market. The aim is to carefully mix THC with caffeine to create a well-balanced mind-body effect, and the cannabis cold-brew contains subtle hints of citrus, currant, and chocolate.
The Somatik cold-brew cannabis coffee is the startup’s first product to hit the shelves, but they plan on releasing more unique edible concoctions later this spring. Ritual Roasters is also collaborating with them to develop a cannabis chocolate-covered coffee bean.
Single-serve bottles of the THC-infused coffee drink are currently available at the Harvest dispensary locations in San Francisco, the Oakland dispensary Magnolia Wellness, and also through the delivery service CANNVIS. Somatik cold-brew costs $12 a bottle, and will pop up in more retail locations in the near future.
