A bill being pushed by a Kansas state senator from Kansas City to legalize marijuana for medical purposes was heard in committee on Monday.
Sen. David Haley wrote the bill. He says the bill is overdue and will help the state.
“The benefits far outweigh the detriments,” Haley said.
The bill, SB 155, is not the first of its kind for Kansas, but as of yet, no bills legalizing marijuana for medical purposes have passed.
KAKE News spoke to Kansas resident Tracy Marling three years ago, at the time her daughter was dealing with a rare form of epilepsy that was not responding to traditional medicines well. On Monday, she spoke again about how hard it is watching her daughter deal with such a dangerous illness, and how the young girl is responding better to a natural alternative, marijuana.
“She has been on so many medicines,” Marling said of her 10-year-old daughter Sophie.
