Halifax police raided an illegal cannabis dispensary in Bedford Wednesday morning and say that despite legalization of recreational pot, dispensary owners should “expect to have police attention coming their way.”
Police officers acted on a search warrant at GreenTree Clinic on the Bedford Hwy. just after 11 a.m. on Nov. 21, according to a news release from Halifax Regional Police.
The release says drug unit investigators seized more than three kilograms of cannabis, an untold amount of cannabis resin, 360 cannabis edibles and a knife.
This was the first cannabis dispensary raid in Halifax since recreational pot was legalized on Oct. 17. Police spokesperson Const. John MacLeod said in an interview that drug enforcement officers delivered warning letters to illegal dispensaries before legalization and started following up again this week.
“(The drug enforcement unit) have been trying to educate any of the dispensaries that are still open and letting them know that should they continue to be operating illegal dispensaries, then they certainly should expect to have police attention coming their way,” said MacLeod.
He added that Wednesday’s raid was unrelated to the delivery of the letters.
