More than 100,000 marijuana plants found on a hidden industrial grow near Merritt, B.C. on Oct. 30 have been destroyed.
Members of the Merritt RCMP discovered the massive grow, estimated to be worth about $8 million, off of Highway 8 while carrying out a search warrant, according to RadioNL. Health Canada had notified the RCMP that there was no cannabis or hemp licence associated with the rural property.
The decision was then made by Merritt RCMP to destroy the large illegal crop, RadioNL reports Corporal Derrick Francis as confirming.
It is not yet clear if any charges have been laid in connection with the operation.
As per the federal Cannabis Act, adults can cultivate as many as four cannabis plants per household for personal use, whether inside or outside. Anything beyond that, Francis points out, can result in fines or charges.
