Gen X Overview:
The Gen X pen is a prefilled cartridge, containing THC distillate that has then been re-enhanced with cannabis derived terpenes to give it a boost in flavour. The Gen X is a collaboration between Trinity Terpenes a California based company and Flavour Savers, a Ontario based extraction company known for their shatters and waxes. The first time I had tried a Gen X pen was while judging the 3rd Annual Karma Cup. This was my favorite entry so naturally, I had “high” expectations for this review. Although I did thoroughly enjoy this product, I did end up finding myself a little disappointed by this specific flavour.
Accessing Gen X:
Gen X Pens are rather hard to come by in Toronto Dispensaries but as luck should have it, they are available online on various websites for both medical and recreational users to enjoy. The main site to find Gen X Pens are at www.CanadianHolistics.com, and you can find more information on the company and brand on their Facebook and Instagram pages.
Gen X Pricing and Selection:
Gen X has grown to have quite the lengthy selection of flavours, for their vape pens. Some of these flavours include:
- Watermelon OG
- Purple Kush
- Tahoe OG
- Gorilla Glue #4
- Blueberry OG
As Well as many others, including the Pineapple express/ACDC flavour of which this review is about (Note not all flavours may be available, at all times). The pricing may vary depending on where you purchase the cartridge, but the average price ranges from $90-120. I have viewed the product for as low as $80, but only a few times.
Unique to Trinity Terpenes and Flavour Savers (Gen X):
Trinity Terpenes is a US based extraction company focusing on cannabis derived terpenes. Located in California the company has crossed into the Canadian Market over the past few years, providing Canadians a vast selection of quality terpene flavours. Flavour Savers is a Toronto based cannabis extraction company originally known for their shatters, waxes and budders. The two companies have merged to create a tasty and quality product for the Canadian Market, which is tasty, and potent.
Gen X Pineapple Express/ACDC: Smell, Taste and Feel:
The Gen X has a very nice easy to open plastic package, which displays the cartridge as well as the company’s names and the flavour of the product. Opening the package there wasn’t really any smell coming from inside, but with it being a cartridge I didn’t expect much of a smell to be noticeable. The cartridge is a small glass tank completely filled with Distillate, with a metal mouth piece and a metal battery attachment containing the coil. The cartridge fits onto most standard batteries, but is recommended for around 3.5 Volts. The taste was what had disappointed me, as it had a very Raw Distillate taste, rather than the heavy terpene flavour that was present in the Karma Cup entry, and the other Gen X Flavours I had tried (Jet Fuel OG, Watermelon OG, Kalashnikova etc.). I’m not sure if maybe the cartridge was a bit older and the terpenes had evaporated, as this could be possible because terpenes are volatile and this happens with certain extracts.
Gen X Pineapple Express/ACDC Effects:
Being a THC Distillate product, the Gen X pens will average a potency of approximately 80% THC. That makes this pen a very strong product, and would be more geared to experienced smokers and medical patients, though low doses may not have ill effects for beginners. The pen with a battery at 3.5 Volts gave me a cloudy hit which I could feel in my throat and my chest. The effects were of a very Sativa nature at a lower dose. The effects were very uplifting, with a heavy head high that left me feeling energetic. After taking a few more puffs from the vape the effects turned into a heavier body stone leaving me a bit couch locked but very relaxed. The later effects had me feeling quite tired, and my appetite was well stimulated, but I was too tired to get up and make food. The medicinal benefits of this product are great, and users will not find themselves disappointed.
