Officers with the Chatham-Kent Police Service (CKPS) responded to an alarm at Willy’s 420 Supplies in downtown Chatham, Ont. just in time to see two youths in dark clothing running from the scene, only to be caught a short time later.
The alarm to the head shop, which provides cannabis-related accessories, was triggered at about 1:30 a.m. on Apr. 8, prompting the police response. Arriving on the scene, the officers saw the two fleeing youths and managed to take them into custody following a short foot chase, notes a statement from the CKPS.
Through investigation, the police report they learned the youths forced their way inside, smashing the front door in the process, and damaged three glass cabinets before stealing several bongs and lighters.
The youths each face charges of break and enter, theft under $5,000, possessing property obtained by a crime under $5,000 and mischief over $5,000. Both were released pending an appearance in court on May 10, 2021.
