What’s That Smell? Motorist Caught With 525 Cannabis Plants At RIDE Stop

RIDE usually stops drug or alcohol-impaired drivers, but police got a surprise this weekend when a checkpoint discovered a huge stash of marijuana plants located in the vehicle.

It happened Friday evening as OPP conducted RIDE on Main Street in Kearney, south of North Bay.

A vehicle entered the checkpoint and officers detected an odour of marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. Further investigation led officers to seize 525 marijuana plants.

As a result, the driver and passenger, both from Markham, were charged.
