As businesses suffer from the impacts of COVID-19 in Canada, many companies have downsized. AHLOT, Toronto-based cannabis curation company, plans to help some of them out.
“For our budtender community members who’ve recently been laid off or had their hours reduced, we created one monthly, guest budtender spot on the AHLOT Cannabis Curation Committee (CCC),” says Greg Pantelic, founder and CEO. Wrapping up its first year, the eight members that make up CCC evaluate different cultivars from licensed cultivators to recommend potential selections for AHLOT’s curated sampler packs.
Now, the company has plans to hire 12 budtenders, with the first position starting in May. Applicants must have worked for more than six months in a customer-facing role at a legal cannabis retailer in Canada.
“Of course this person must be of legal consumption age in their province and reside in Canada,” says Pantelic.
If selected, the new members will be paid $50/hour to try strains and make recommendations. Including guest budtenders, the team can typically expect 10 to 15 hours of work per month.
“We’ve been planning to include a different budtender each month on the AHLOT CCC for quite some time, as they have a ton of knowledge and could help AHLOT make better product decisions. While we’re still small, if we could help out 12 different budtenders over the course of a year, that’s a great start,” says Pantelic.
