A third legalized cannabis dispensary is coming to Midland.
Toke Cannabis is on the verge of receiving a licence from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario for a shop at 262 King St., next to Taylor and Co. Clothiers.
“We are looking at opening April 20 – on 4/20,” said owner Katy Perry. “We will get our licence in March and we aren’t sure whether we will pull the trigger at the end of March or wait and do something catchy on 4/20.”
Perry, a cannabis activist, has Toke Cannabis dispensaries in Toronto, Hamilton, St. Catharines and Niagara Falls. She said she hopes to open an additional five stores by the end of the year, including the shop on King Street.
She said she chose Midland because she felt there was a lack of cannabis retail locations in the region. There are currently two other stores in Midland – Friendly Stranger and Speakeasy Cannabis – serving the entire north Simcoe population of 48,000 people.
“The summer community and summer tourism is going to bring larger numbers to Midland, which will help,” said Perry. “But first and foremost, we want to serve the local community and make sure their cannabis needs are met.”
The store will have a variety of cannabis products, including flowers, pre-rolled joints, concentrates, edibles, drinks, creams and bath bombs. She said all of the products carried at Toke Cannabis locations are carefully curated and tested by staff before being added to the menu.
