Midland’s first legalized cannabis dispensary is up and running.
Speakeasy Cannabis Co., located at 9170 County Road 93, opened its doors in late 2020 after a lengthy licensing process.
“It was 18 months in the making. There was a lot of red tape,” said owner Tammy Carriere. “Seeing as we are so close to Waypoint and the super jail (Central North Correctional Centre) there were extra security measures we had to abide by.”
Carriere, who is Penetanguishene born and raised, felt a licensed dispensary was needed in the community. So, she teamed up with Speakeasy Cannabis Co, which has locations in Cambridge and Bowmanville, and brought a store to town.
After wading through the tedious application and approvals process, Speakeasy Cannabis received official authorization from the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario on Aug. 25, 2020.
Carriere then spent several months ordering inventory, organizing her store front and hiring and training staff before opening in late November.
“Our budtenders are well educated. They go through a lengthy training process,” said Carriere. “We are not a medical resource. We don’t give out medical advice, but we are very educated on the products that we have.”
The dispensary offers everything from edibles and flowers to pre-rolled joints and has a full line of accessories.
The storefront is located in a grey building at the corner of County Road 93 and Balm Beach Road East. It can be accessed off of Sundowner Road.
The store is open from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Sundays. It also offers pickup and delivery for online orders via speakeasycannabis.ca.
