The owner of a Surrey marijuana dispensary plans to file a challenge under the Charter of Rights and Freedoms after his shop was raided and closed by RCMP Thursday as part of an ongoing investigation.

“It’s unbelievable what they’re doing,” said Don Briere, owner of the Weeds Glass and Gifts chain, which includes Da Kine Glass and Gifts, located at 10330 152nd St. in Guildford.

Two employees and a customer who were arrested in the investigation have been released on a promise to appear. Briere said the trio are scheduled to appear in court on Dec. 28.

According to Briere, Surrey RCMP officers arrived at the marijuana dispensary on Wednesday afternoon. Officers were stationed overnight outside the shop while awaiting a search warrant. The owner said officers entered the business around 5 p.m. Thursday and searched the store for two to three hours, before leaving.

The shop has since been locked and a bylaw notice warning of a possible $10,000 fine was posted to the storefront, said Briere. The notice restricts anyone from entering the premises.
