Saulteaux First Nation had a grand opening on Friday, Jan. 29 of its new cannabis dispensary situated on Saulteaux-owned land at the corner of Highway 4 north and Forest Hall Road on the outskirts of North Battleford.
A release issued on the occasion of the grand opening explained that tTo make the dispensary possible, the Chief and Council from Saulteaux First Nation signed its own Cannabis Bylaw as a Sovereign Nation in asserting jurisdiction and exercising inherit aboriginal and treaty right to self-determination.
Saulteaux First Nation is a proud owner of majority shares in partnership with REALEAF and forging ahead in cannabis industry, stated the release.
“Our community along with Council and Elders took this initiative to create jobs and revenue. We need more houses and we need to support our youth in sports and recreation. We are looking to branch out to other locations on Saulteaux First Nation lands including the Resort Village of Cochin. REALEAF Dispensary is open for business, said Chief Kenny Moccasin.”
