As Canadian cannabis producers prepare for the coming legal adult recreational market, product differentiation will be a key element of success, and Organigram is ready. On November 27, the Moncton, New Brunswick licensed producer announced a new ultra-premium cannabis line, a project that’s been in the works for two years.
The Edison Project by OGI offers patients access to premium craft flower, while simultaneously serving as a test market for Organigram’s expansion into the adult recreational space.
“Although we’re, first and foremost, a medical company, we’ve been focused on developing our brand and product strategy for the past two years,” says Organigram chief commercial officer Ray Gracewood. “Part of this process has been understanding what future consumers will be looking for in a premium cannabis product, and we’ve taken much of that insight and research into development of the Edison Project. Our intention from this point will be to provide this new line of products to our current patient base, then leverage that insight and data into how we position ourselves in the super premium category within the adult recreational market.”
Initially the Edison line will focus on two strains, each harvested from the cannabis plant’s top flower, or top cola; the large, lush flowers are regarded in the cannabis world as the highest quality produced by plants, when compared to their lower-growing counterparts. Top flowers are the largest on the plant, as they grow closest to their light source, resulting in greater flower density. The Edison Project product line, Gracewood continues, was built on a spirit of innovation, never settling or compromising on quality.
Indica-dominant #3 Edison represents the top flowers from Organigram’s Hash Plant+ strain, one of its most popular and robust offerings. Boasting a rich aroma, tight, dense bud structure and consistently high-THC values, Hash Plant + is a myrcene-rich strain, reputed by patients as a powerful tool for combating pain and depression.
Rounding out the collection, sativa-dominant #7 Edison represents the top flowers from Acadia+, a powerful strain reputed by patients to be useful at combatting depression, pain and lethargy. With a very dense, compact bud structure, Acadia offers a tangy, tart aroma with notes of freshly picked field berries.
