A raid by the Ontario Provincial Police on an illicit cannabis site in the City of Kawartha Lakes, Ontario last week yielded more than 15,000 cannabis plants.
According to police, the raid was carried out as part of an ongoing investigation into the cultivation of illicit cannabis. Members of the Kawartha Lakes and Haliburton Highlands detachment OPP street crime units descended on a rural property close to Dunsford to execute the Cannabis Act warrant, in partnership with the Central Region Emergency Response Team and Canine Unit, and the Peterborough and Northumberland OPP.
The spoils of the August 27 search were not limited to weed, MyKawartha.com reports. Aside from the 15,300 cannabis plants seized — along with some dried bud — multiple vehicles, “industrial-sized” dehumidifiers, generators, and a riding lawnmower were confiscated from the property.
Nine people were detained by police as a result of the raid, although police have not specified if charges have been laid.
