The Provincial Joint Forces Cannabis Enforcement Team of the Ontario Provincial Police, along with the Ottawa Police Service, has shut down an illegal cannabis storefront on Athlone Avenue in Westboro.

Officers executed a search warrant at a business on Tuesday, February 26.

As a result, police enforced an interim closure of the premises as per section 18 (3) of the provincial Cannabis Control Act. Officers seized suspected processed cannabis, cannabis hash, cannabis shatter, cannabis oil, edibles, vape pens and Canadian currency. The total value of the seizure is in excess of $40,000.

Douglas Baskin, 38, and Saba Salenn Amed Awadh Al Zahari, 21, both of Ottawa, have been charged with the following counts under the federal Cannabis Act:

  • Possession of Cannabis for the purpose of selling (Cannabis Bud)
  • Possession of Cannabis for the purpose of selling (Cannabis Shatter)
  • Possession of Cannabis for the purpose of selling (Cannabis Edibles)
  • Possession of Cannabis for the purpose of selling (Hashish)

Both are also charged under the Criminal Code with Proceeds of Crime Under $5,000.
