It was a non-starter for this Oshawa, Ont. man when police found him with a starter’s pistol, cash and a large quantity of weed earlier this week.

Upon arriving, the 18-year-old man fled the scene and the K9 unit took over. Police Service Dog Six successfully tracked down the suspect, but he received minor injuries from a dog bite during a scuffle with police. The man was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

Found with the imitation firearm and about $2,000 worth of cannabis, he was arrested. Lucais Dayton of no-fixed address has been charged with possessing cannabis for the purpose of selling and failing to comply. Dayton was held for a bail hearing.

In Ontario, the province’s Cannabis Act notes that people under the age of 19 cannot possess, consume, buy or distribute weed. Under the federalCannabis Act, possession over the limit can result in up to five years less a day in jail and illegal distribution or sale has a maximum penalty of 14 years in jail.
