The province of Ontario has so far authorized eight First Nations communities to sell cannabis, including Nipissing First Nation (NFN), and NFN has now chosen a member to helm its first pot shop.
After multiple residents applied to open the retail space, all of whom had the approval of local band council, Zachary Lacelle had been awarded the licence to run the NFN cannabis store.
The dispensary will be located slightly west of North Bay in the Bineshii Business Park, per band council resolution. The timeline for when the store will be opening its doors, however, is as yet unknown.
NFN made headlines earlier this year when it established its own cannabis laws, after Chief Scott McLeod characterized the rules under the Cannabis Act to be prejudiced and that the rigour of NFN’s own rules would speed up the licensing process.
