Niagara Regional Police Busts 2 Large Medical Marijuana Grow Ops

Niagara Regional Police say they have shut down two mutlimillion-dollar marijuana growing operations in Beamsville.

Police say the grow ops — one at 5377 King St. W. and the other at 4390 South Service Rd. — had licences to produce medical marijuana. However, in a news release police say the operations provided Health Canada with fraudulent information to obtain those licences.

On Oct 4. NRP officers raided both locations seizing nearly 14,000 marijuana plants with an estimated street value of nearly $13.9 million. Officers also seized 63.9 kilograms of dried and processed pot worth $284,000.

Police say the number of plants exceeded the licenced amounts by more 1,000 plants.

Two people were charged after the raid on the King Street location, where 10 people were initially arrested. Jun-Yi Li, 60, and Jie-X Lin, 79, were charged with unlawful production of a controlled substance and possession of the proceeds of crime.
