In November of 2019 members of the Guelph Police Service Traffic Unit participated in the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police Festive RIDE kickoff which was held at the headquarters of the Waterloo Regional Police Service. Since that time, members of the Guelph Police Service participated in a number of RIDE spot checks within the City of Guelph with the goal of ensuring the safety of the public during what is a very busy time of year on the roadways. Since the kickoff, six RIDE programs were conducted.
Approximately 3,330 drivers were checked. 104 drivers were tested on the approved roadside screening device and of those tested, four drivers registered a fail and were arrested for the offence of operating a conveyance with 80 plus mg of alcohol in 100 ML of blood contrary to the Criminal Code.One of the four drivers arrested refused to provide a breath sample and was charged with that criminal offence.
Five of the drivers were issued with 90 day drivers licence suspensions.
