Won’t somebody please think of the potheads?
Comedian Bill Maher spared a few thoughts for cannabis enthusiasts on Friday’s episode of his show before announcing it was heading into hiatus as coronavirus fears continued to sweep the country.
The host of HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher — or “F–king Ridiculous with Bill Maher” as he called it before a mostly empty studio — said he’s been having a few weed-induced issues.
“Everybody’s f–king nervous, especially stoners,” according to Route Fifty. Even as pandemic fears have people reaching for their anxiety-reducing medicine more frequently, special precautions should be taken with the typically social drug.
“Cannabis users like to share,” said Dr. Jordan Tishler, president of the Association of Cannabis Specialists. “But the bottom line is that we need to modify our behaviours. I’m not saying you shouldn’t share your bong with your wife. But sharing with 15 friends is a major risk, and if you cut it out, you’re better off.”
Because there’s no sure way to tell if your pot-smoking buddy has Covid-19 or still just can’t use a bong properly, your safest bet might be to avoid smoking the drug altogether. “Taking cannabis in a non-inhaled fashion is absolutely not a problem,” said Dr. Tishler, who also runs InhaleMD, an association of medical marijuana providers in Massachusetts.
