Guelph residents will not need to travel far to buy their weed.
On Wednesday morning, the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario released the results of its second lottery for cannabis stores, with the Royal City now destined to see one of 42 new stores.
The new store will be located at 120 Wyndham St. N., a vacant downtown storefront. The successful application is attached to an individual named John Reynolds.
Along with the confirmed storefront, there is a second Guelph store — at 208 Victoria Rd. S. — on the wait list for a location. That application is attached to an individual named Ralph Llacar.
According to the AGCO, those on the wait list can move up to the selected list of stores if those ahead of them “are found to be ineligible for a retail operator licence or retail store authorization, or are otherwise disqualified under the allocation lottery rules.”
The east end location is second on the waiting list for the West Region, where Guelph is located.
Last month, the provincial government announced it would be holding a lottery to reward 50 new cannabis store authorizations, with eight going to First Nations reserves.
