The first legal dispensary has officially opened in Brantford.
Seven Point Cannabis held a grand opening for its Stanley Street location on June 11.
The owner, Gus, who has asked to have his last name excluded, was one of four applicants who submitted applications for proposed locations in April. By April 20, two of the four applications had been objected.
The two that did not have objections from the city were then opened for public notice, which meant the public could submit objections to be considered.
“It’s a rigorous process that we go through to get approvals, and they make sure that we’re 100 per cent before they approve anybody,” said Gus. “We’re just really happy to be the first store in Brantford. We’re trying to bring a really good, safe store to the city.”
Gus said their main focus is on safety, customer experience, and protection of minors.
They have compulsory identification checks for anyone who looks under 35, covered windows, and a wall barrier in the front entrance specifically.
Before entering the store customers are asked for identification.
The store is fully licenced by the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario, with its only supplier of products being the Ontario Government.
Seven Point has 18 staff members that are all licensed through CannSell. CannSell is the equivalent of the Smart Serve training needed to sell alcohol, but for cannabis.
Education for the employees helps them explain types of products they have to customers that may have questions.
