Brant Councillors Reject Bid To Add Cannabis Production to Building’s Use

Brant County councillors have rejected an application to allow cannabis production and processing in a building near the Brantford municipal airport.

Councillors voted against the proposal at a planning meeting Tuesday. Their decision is expected to be ratified at a Jan. 26 council meeting.

The application was first submitted to the county by a numbered Ontario company that owned Jazbrick, which operated at 22 Airport Rd. At that time, the business was winding down and its owner was approached by potential tenants interested in using the space as a cannabis production and processing facility.

Councillors were told Tuesday that those plans have since been abandoned but the applicant still wants to have cannabis production added as a permitted use for the building for possible future use.

Plans now call for the building to be leased to a warehouse operation, councillors were told.
