As the race to finding a vaccine gains momentum, researchers at Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv, Israel, are examining the effects of cannabidiol (CBD) on patients with COVID-19 in a new study.
CBD is an anti-inflammatory cannabinoid that doesn’t cause impairment. Doctors are now investigating whether the compound’s antiviral properties could slow the spread, Israel’s Channel 12 reports.
Symptoms of coronavirus include high fever, cough, lung inflammation and respiratory distress. The study aims to investigate if CBD extracted from the cannabis plant can be used to slow down the inflammation that leads to further deterioration in the patients.
