Lady Gaga has never tried to hide her cannabis use.
The singer, actress and 11-time Grammy winner can be seen throughout the 2017 Netflix documentary Five Foot Two constantly puffing on joints.
She also wasn’t shy about it in 2019, when she lit up a joint while performing in Amsterdam.
“I want you to know it has totally changed my life and I’ve really cut down on drinking. It has been a totally spiritual experience for me with my music. It’s like saying everybody needs to take a breath and it’s going to be OK,” she reportedly told the audience, according to Koimoi.
Lady Gaga, who is no stranger to performing in cannabis-themed outfits, first turned to weed as a form of pain relief following a hip injury and was smoking upward of 20 joints a day. She said that the plant also helped treat her anxiety.
“I was living on a totally other psychedelic plane, numbing myself completely, and looking back, I do see now that some of it had to do with my hip pain. I didn’t know where the pain was coming from, so I was just in a lot of pain and very depressed all the time and not really sure why,” she told People in 2013.
Her relationship with cannabis has evolved since then, however, according to Fresh Toast. “For weeks and weeks I didn’t smoke at all. And now I smoke a little bit at night, just, you know, for fun — but not to cope,” she said. “That’s the difference.”
