Now that cannabis legalization is slowly spreading through North America, a lot of adults who smoked pot when they were younger are having a puff again – with mixed results. Many complain that today’s marijuana is way too strong compared to what they grew up smoking, and no one speaks to the concerns of adult consumers like comedian Louis C.K. – who turns 49 today.
In his standup acts and the FX show Louie, C.K. has touched on issues like potency of strains, high texting and tripping out. Here are his best marijuana moments so far.
1. Feeling too old to toke
In his set for Live at the Beacon Theater (2011), Louis opened up about some of his embarrassing run-ins with cannabis.
“Last time I got high, I was in Kansas City. And I got high because I was in Kansas City – it’s shitty.” So he went out after the set to split a joint with a group of twenty-somethings who worked at the club.
“I’m standing in the parking lot with these kids – like, 20 years old – and we’re smoking a joint. And I’m taking huge hits because I had no idea. I didn’t know they’d been working on this shit like it was the cure for cancer. I didn’t understand the technology that’s gone into making pot so powerful. Cuz when I was a kid, you could just smoke a joint for a while. Now you take two hits and you go insane. It’s not doable anymore.”
Unfortunately, Louis had to find that out the hard way. “I was taking big hits. Like 1970s, jean jacket Bad Company hits…and even the kid with the [stretched earlobe piercings] – even he was like, ‘You should be careful. That’s a lot of pot. That’s very strong marijuana.'”
