Former president George W. Bush’s cousin, Jonathan Bush, is a major supporter of efforts to legalize marijuana for recreational use in Massachusetts.
Jonathan Bush, CEO of the digital health care services company athenahealth, recently donated $10,000 to pro-cannabis legalization efforts in Massachusetts, according to a MassLive report.
A spokesman for Jonathan Bush told Boston.com reporter Adam Vaccaro that Bush “believes this is one of many freedoms Americans should have the right to.”
Many Americans might be surprised to learn that a member of America’s famed “Bush” political family, which is typically associated with conservative policies, would be so gung ho about legalizing weed. But those familiar with Bush’s work with athenahealth are probably less shocked.
He has a record of thinking outside the box when it comes to U.S. health care services.
“Bush views athenahealth as a disruptor,” Kaitlin Ugolik writes in an October 2015 profile for Institutional Investor. “He says the company’s mission is to ‘create the health care Internet’.”
