If smoking weed makes you feel like a tomato or a genius, you are not alone. In this episode of Ask an Expert, we asked Dr. Markus Roggen why that happens. In fact, we asked him all sorts of viewer questions about weed and the brain. Dr. Markus Roggen has a doctorate in Chemistry and is the founder and CEO of Complex Biotech Discovery Ventures LTD, a licensed cannabis research laboratory. Somehow, we managed to talk this guy into letting us ask him anything about weed. The answers were about as scientific as your questions but still, thanks for these golden nuggets!
This is your brain on weed… or at least, this episode is all about the effect of cannabis on the brain. Welcome to the Ask an Expert – Episode 3!
Episode 3 – You asked and Dr. Markus Roggen answered!
Why do I feel like a genius when I smoke weed?
It’s a perception problem; like thinking you are Rocky when you have too much to drink.
Stoner Answer: You found the strain that fits with your endocannabinoid system. You inhaled the perfect blend of cannabinoids and terpenes, creating a symphony of harmonic cerebral neurotransmission. You have found a path to open your mind and connect with yourself. You feel like a genius because you are one. Remember this and know that if you forget your way, you know to find it again. Now go with it, my friend.
How does weed affect the learning and developing brain?
We know that smoking cannabis at a juvenile age can make structural changes to the brain. However, the verdict is still out as to exactly how those changes will affect learning development and make emotional changes. That kind of data can only be confirmed with long term studies and those studies take ages. Most recently they started one down in San Diego but that is still years from concluding. However, there is a correlation between juvenile cannabis use and mental health issues later on; that means correlate which is different from causation proved.
Stoner Answer: Verdicts still out.
If someone smokes weed every day and is able to successfully study engineering, does it imply a high IQ, or it just a bad college?
You don’t need a high IQ to study engineering.
Spotify is giving me ads about not driving high, how do they know I smoke weed?
Maybe from the constant playlist of Grateful Dead and Willie Nelson.
What does it mean when a guy invites you to smoke weed and watch movies the first time you hang out?
The literal meaning of Netflix and chill.
