This past weekend (August 25-26) The Diamond Cup held their first cannabis cup. The event was in downtown Toronto, at a popular venue for cannabis events, 1305 Dundas West. The organizers decorated the space with tents for vendors, a stage for the award ceremony & performance, and a VIP section in the back.
The vendors were spread around the exterior carrying bud, concentrates, edibles, vape pens, seeds, etc. Practically everything THC and/or CBD you could want. The first 500 tickets were free for the event, and once they sold out the organizers decided to make the event completely free to attend, due to public interest.
The first day was the busier of the two, with approximately 400 people coming through between 12:30pm and 8pm. There were giveaways every hour consisting of everything from t-shirts, 7 grams of bud, concentrates to 2 ounces of bud. The end of the first day culminated with a performance by Ching. (@TheyCallMeChing)
Day two of the event was slower paced with a smaller turn out. When we arrived we noticed a couple booths were missing from the first day, I guess they decided to stay home. The closing event for the second day was the award ceremony for the cannabis cup, hosted by Jacqui Childs (@JacquiChilds) from the Naked News.
The event started slightly behind schedule, the first day, to allow for the vendors to finish setting up. Inside there was a mix of branded and unbranded tents set up to mark different vendors’ spaces. One of the first tents your eyes are drawn to is the 91 Supreme booth consisting of a double wide branded tent with a wooden dab bar set up with two strain for tasting.
The next vendor to catch our eye, that also had amazing branding, was HoverCBD. They had approximately 5 different CBD only concentrates that were all slightly different. I was particularly interested in their terpene infused concentrates, as I know many medical patients don’t always like the taste of CBD. We spoke in-depth with HoverCBD and will hopefully be reviewing some CBD soon.
Speaking of reviews, we chatted with Left Cost Gummy Co. who have beautiful packaging and great gummies. We received a few packs that will be reviewed shortly! Same with Dizzy Organix, a company that has a line of edibles, concentrates, capsules and distillate. We got a couple products for review that will be on Dankr.ca soon.
There were a total of 13 vendors, which included Mr. Nice Guy, Quad City, Stank Dank, TheHotCase, HighGrade BC, Elite 613 Genetics, Sticky Zoo, Earth Bound, Deshigher, etc. TheHotCase was a new product, a case that was smell proof and crush proof. The creator of the product was showing us his personal case and said he’s driven over it and it still is scent proof and works great.
There was one or two tents set up for the Diamond Cup selling T-shirts, pop and pizza to those interested. They also had VIP tickets for sale for $40, which got you access into the back area which had a mini fridge with pop and chocolate bars to help yourself, along with two strain of rosin and two of shatter. There was a dab rig, two torches, and dab tools so you could help yourself. A little later on in the day pizza arrived for the VIP guests.
The VIP lounge was cool to check out. It gave you an option to sit down, relax, and dab at your own rate. There were a few companies their with free dabs, and one with donation dabs, which is lots for your average consumer. There were also edible samples available at different booths as well.
When it came around to the award ceremony, you could sense many of the companies vending had entered into the completion and were waiting in anticipation. I wont keep you in suspense; the following are the 2018 Diamond Cup results:
- Left Coast Gummy Co.
- Euphoria Extracts
- Deezy Organix
- Formula BC – Silver Skunk
- Bulk Farms – Blue Angle
- Bulk Farms – Master Skunk
- 91 Supreme – Tropic Thunder

Overall it was a fun weekend at The Diamond Cup, you can’t be disappointed in a free event. The 13 different vendors basically covered all the cannabis products you could be looking for, in one place. Hopefully the event continues in future years with more vendors and cup entries.
