Edition is thrilled to announce the grand opening of their first cannabis retail destination in Toronto this December, trailblazing a new kind of shopping experience. The high-concept brand unveils an unrivaled cannabis experience with the focus on impeccable service and an affinity for design. The flagship store, located at 270 Dupont Street in The Annex neighborhood in Downtown Toronto, Ontario (Canada) will artfully blend curated cannabis offerings, luxury smoking accessories, specially mixed playlists, and exclusive signature items.
Created in partnership with award-winning Toronto-based architecture firm StudioAC – an emerging name in the contemporary design scene – Edition shares the belief that good design, architecture, and art has universal appeal for all consumers and should be present in the identity of all retail experiences, including cannabis.
“It’s been an amazing collaboration with the team at StudioAC,” said CEO and founder Ryan Roebuck. “Jennifer and Andrew presented us with the design concept, and they entrusted us to fill in the blanks with them. Every single detail in the space was collaborative and made with intention. We didn’t just pick out some fancy marble and wood on a mood board. We wanted to build spaces that would evoke a feeling of intrigue and wow using high design to create unrivaled experiences in cannabis.”
Unlike conventional design concepts used in cannabis retail stores, StudioAC took a sophisticated, yet minimalist, approach when creating Editions’ design aesthetic. “Rather than the act of designing shelves, displays or sales desks, we wanted to produce a singular design element, a sculpture of sorts that has its own aesthetic quality and massing that simultaneously is inspired by existing conditions while also setting out to define new ones,” said Studio AC co-founder Jennifer Kudlats.
Curious passersby will see a sleek front-of-house gallery that hides the retail area, keeping in line with Canada’s regulations and restrictions around cannabis branding. Customers enter the narrow space and are instantly transfixed by elongated tables and ceiling made from off-the-shelf industrial grating. The monochromatic interior allows for tastefully curated and cannabis products and accessories to become the focal point for the shopper.
The luxury cannabis brand was founded by prominent cannabis entrepreneur Ryan Roebuck and his longtime business partner Dennis Bennie. They felt that cannabis retail lacked the inclusiveness and refined experience that reflected the traditional retailers they would shop at. Edition was created to fill this void and serve its community’s needs and shopping preferences.
“Cannabis stores should reflect the incredible retail experiences which already exist in our lives and not be subpar or intimidating” shares Ryan Roebuck. “Edition is breaking the stigma of cannabis retail through design, quality and impeccable service.”
