Three MMA Fighters Sanctioned After Testing Positive for Marijuana Following UFC Fight Night 104

Article by Phil Clark, Merry Jane

All three were given 90-day suspensions and $1,000 fines, but the fighters won’t face punishment from the USADA.

The in-competition drug tests are in for UFC Fight Night 104 and it’s not looking good for Curtis Blaydes, Abel Trujillo and Niko Price. All three fighters tested positive for marijuana, with two forced to give up their wins because of the weed.

According to MMAFighting.com, Price and Blaydes won preliminary bouts on the card, with Price taking out Alex Morono with a one-punch KO and Blaydes defeating Adam Milstead in the second round thanks to an injury to Milstead’s knee. Thanks to the failed drug tests, oth victories have now been overturned and will be recorded as no-contests.

Trujillo lost on the main card to James Vick by submission via D’Arce Choke in the third round. Because Trujillo lost his bout, that decision will remain as is.

Price’s pro record is now 9-0 with one no-contest, Blaydes’ moves to 6-1 with a no-contest and Trujillo’s loss brings his record down to 15-7 with one no-contest.

This isn’t the first time Trujillo has had a fight interrupted by a failed drug test, but it is the first time it’s hurt him. A November 2015 loss to Gleison Tibau turned into a disqualification win when Tibau tested positive for erythopoietin.

As a result of the test results, all three fighters have been suspended 90 days and fined $1,000 by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR).
