A co-strategist in Israel’s Ministry of Health’s medical cannabis programme, Boaz Watchtel, is calling on the Andrew Holness-led Administration to move with alacrity to put in a framework for the establishment a medical ganja industry.
He also recommended that the Government move swiftly to legalise the herb.
“Now is the time to get the programme in place and have medical cannabis grown and provide access to patients. At the same time move into complete legalisation,” Watchtel noted.
He further noted: “We know that legalisation offers many, many benefits to society in the form of tax… in the form of elimination of the black market.”
But, Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett, speaking after Watchtel at the inaugural CanEx Conference and Expo at the Montego Bay Convention Centre on Friday, appealed for patience.
“Do not be too hard on us as we seek to navigate our way through these choppy waters. I have heard you a while ago, Doc, and I understand clearly where you are coming from,” Bartlett remarked, the doc being referred to being fellow Member of Parliament Dr Horace Chang.
