A Chicago-area medical cannabis dispensary has released a “flash-sale” medical marijuana app to offer discounts to registered Illinois patients.
The app is called CannaCrowd, and it’s the first of its kind to be launched in Illinois, according to developers at Midwest Compassion Center (MCC) in suburban Romeoville.
MCC partner Nicole van Rensburg says the app is a bit like Groupon meets Kickstarter for medical marijuana.
“It’s a flash-sale type of app that allows patients to reserve [sic] a bulk quantity of product at a deep discount,” van Rensburg said in an email to Extract.
The app offers medical cannabis products for sale at discounts ranging from 40 to 60 percent below market prices, according to a company release.
MCC partner William Hollander says CannaCrowd aims to serve Illinois patients who desperately need access to affordable, high-quality medical cannabis.
“Many of our patients have a hard time affording their cannabis medication,” Hollander said in a statement. “Since cannabis is not FDA approved, it is not covered by a patient’s insurance carrier. Additionally, a lot of our patients are living on disability or a fixed income. Asking our patients to pay cash out of pocket for their cannabis is very burdensome and costly.”
