Public Health Minister Lucie Charlebois will give Quebecers a better idea of what cannabis legalization will look this morning.
Charlebois, who is also responsible for youth protection, is expected to detail guidelines for the sale of cannabis in Quebec in an announcement.
The Trudeau government is working to make legalization a reality across Canada by July 1, 2018. It tabled legislation to end the prohibition on pot in April but Charlebois said at the time that a lot of details were missing.
She said she would be tabling her own bill after an in-depth look at the federal legislation, claiming that the federal plan lacks specifics — like the sale of marijuana by-products and threshold levels for THC.
“We’ve got to make sure we protect the population as a matter of public health and security,” she said at the time.
