Toronto’s premier contemporary functional glass art gallery has a new location at a historic cannabis address!
For years, 600 Church Street has been used for various businesses in the Toronto cannabis community. It was a vape lounge when Get Melted was a tenant, then a C.A.L.M. dispensary, and was briefly a pot shop again as the original location of Marc Emery’s Toronto Cannabis Culture. Now the address is the new flagship store for Toronto’s most artistic head shop: Boroheads Glass Gallery.
Since April 2014, Boroheads has been the best place in the city to find rare, unique and exciting pieces of functional glass art. If you are looking for a fully worked dab rig, a recycler that glows under ultraviolet light, or a bong with beautifully cut iridescent opals then you probably already know about Boroheads. For those who don’t know, Boroheads’ product lineup includes vaporizers, local and scientific glass, but mostly their focus is on having lots of heady glass for sale. The guys at Boroheads are very passionate about glass art, always trying to feature unique and contemporary pieces on their shelves.
Boroheads Glass Gallery has long been a favourite for those who appreciate heady glass and is a must see for any artist whether they smoke cannabis or prefer not to. The new location has a very different layout from their previous one. The 600 Church street location has a larger storefront, but may be slightly smaller on the inside. This is overcome by the amount of display cases set up on the two different floors. There is ample room for glass art to be displayed, with Boroheads planning on hosting artist exhibits in the new space. The first artist to be featured is a Toronto local who will be on site for the exhibit. This first exhibition will take place in the spring, and the artist will be announced after their anand re-opening. These exhibits will provide some amazing glass to admire and purchase, as well as an opportunity to meet other individuals with a passion for glass.
Started because of a lack of access to high quality glass art in Toronto, Boroheads was founded to support passionate collectors seeking artistic, heady pieces over the cheap imports that make up 95% of local shop’s inventory. It is clear from the glass stocked on their shelves that these are pieces of art, rather than just water pipes.
With high quality hand blown pieces along with great customer service, knowledgeable staff, upcoming artist exhibits, and even a small VIP lounge for customers and friends, the new store is sure to amaze customers new and old alike. These artist exhibits are designed to help foster, and bring something new to the glass community in Toronto. I’m sure there will be a lot of glass blowers and collectors in attendance.
The upstairs gallery portion of the shop is set to house the higher-end glass, pieces $1,000+. Designed to display pieces like a traditional art gallery, glass cases are mounted on the walls and center of the room, rather than in front of a counter. One of the coolest things is their “UV closet”. That’s right, Boroheads has a blacked out closet with UV black lights and a glass door to see the featured UV reactive glass for sale at its full glory. For their qualified customers, an e-nail and dab station will be available upstairs to test that new scoop. The final touches are currently being completed upstairs, but the main floor is already completely open for business.
The main floor has all your essentials, including rolling papers, concentrate nails, ashtrays, torches, etc. The glass on the main floor is really impressive, with some very heady pieces for under $1,000. There are also a variety of bowl pieces, downstems, and much more if are simply looking for a replacement part or upgrade.
Partner shop “Vape to Vape” moved to the new address with Boroheads, and now has a larger presence in the store. They will be able to help you with any vape issues you may have, or happily supply you with the newest e-juice, battery, or mod. The main floor of the store is already open for business, so stop by and check it out if you aren’t already familiar with Boroheads. If you are already a customer, they look forward to showing you around their new location. The store will continue to have the same hours: 12-10pm Monday – Saturday, and 12-8pm on Sunday.
Boroheads will be hosting a Grand Re-Opening to display their new flagship store. The Grand Re-Opening will take place on April 1st, 2017.
