INTEGRA BOOST Overview:
INTERA BOOST is a specific cannabis humidity-controlling company created by the parent company Desiccare, Inc. Each humidity pack has two-way humidity control allowing it to give and take moister as needed to keep the desired humidity level. Available at 62% & 55% humidity, in a variety of sizes to match the amount of medicine on hand.
Accessing INTEGRA BOOST:
My first interaction with BOOST was at a cannabis conference during the summer of 2017 where they were promoting their products. INTERA BOOST is now quite common in head shops around Toronto with HotBox Café and Toronto Hemp Company carrying them.
INTEGRA BOOST Pricing & Selection:
INTERA BOOST makes a few different products, all revolving around cannabis and humidity control. The main products being the 55% & 62% two-way humidity control packs that retail for anywhere from $1.25 to over $10 depending on the size and where purchased from. BOOST is sized by the weight of the humidity pack, rather than the amount of cannabis it is used to store. The 4 gram pack does up to 12 grams of cannabis, with the 8 gram doing 14-28 grams and 67 grams keeping a pound fresh. INTERA BOOST has also created an indicator strip to tell you the moisture content of the surrounding environment. This is intended for grow/drying rooms and in your jars to check the moisture level. This is easily done through an visual colour indicator. If high levels of moisture are an issue, INTERA BOOST has their CARGO DRY, weighing 1,000 grams and design to be hung up to remove moisture where it builds up. Their suggestion is in drying rooms, but it can also be useful if growing at home and looking to remove extra moisture elsewhere in the house.
Unique to INTEGRA BOOST:
INTERA BOOST is the second major company to create a humidity control pack. It was marketed as an alternative to Boveda humidity packs, which before BOOST faced little competition. Those representing BOOST claimed that Boveda humidity packs altered the taste of your cannabis as salt is used to regulate the moisture content. See the Boveda review here. BOOST uses glycerin to facilitate this job. INTERA BOOST went the extra step to include a moisture indicator with each pack, incorporating food grade ink on packaging that is tear resistant and spill proof.
INTEGRA BOOST Taste:
After talking with BOOST representatives it seemed clear to me that the taste was the main differentiator between them and Boveda, claiming Boveda changed the taste of your cannabis. Fortunately for myself I haven’t noticed a change in taste with ether the INTERA BOOST or Boveda packs. Those with extremely sensitive taste buds might be able to notice a slight difference, but it isn’t a substantial change.
My Experience With INTEGRA BOOST:
I have experimented with both the BOOST humidity pack and the moisture indictor strips. I found user error to be the biggest issue, with a lack of experience/understanding of the product. INTERA BOOST is design to stay flexible even when dried out. This can be very confusing for those familiar with Boveda, as they get crispy to show moisture has been given out. From what I have seen individuals in the cannabis community weren’t sure if the product was working or not. A moisture indicator is included to help give a visual indicator of the moisture content. After repeated experimentation, I believe the root of the confusion is a slower rate of moisture transfer. This would explain a lot of the confusion of dry bud still being dry the following day. Once the moisture is evenly distributed then the indicator will give an accurate reading.
I found some similar issues with the INTEGRA humidity indicators. They were slower to react than I had hpped, and because of the 10% – 60% humidity indicators, it is nearly impossible to use these to cure your cannabis. 55%-65% humidity is ideal to seal your jars, but this is at the top of the humidity scale provided, making it inaccurate. My recommendation is to use INTERA BOOST for long-term storage of properly dried cannabis. Using it for long storage allows time for the moisture to distribute and prevents any potential variation in taste over time with Boveda.
