Earlier this year, the federal government introduced legislation that if passed, will legalize the sale, growth, distribution and possession of cannabis (marijuana). Federal legislation is expected to be in place by July 2018.
The provinces and territories also have discretion to establish local regulations and restrictions, Justice and Public Safety noted in a news release, adding decisions include where cannabis may be sold, who may purchase it, and whether certain laws should be updated or changed in the interests of public health and safety.
Residents who wish to participate can visit www.engagenl.ca. They will be required to create an account before responding, but all responses will be anonymous and kept confidential, according to the department.
The questionnaire will close on June 30.
This questionnaire marks the launch of engageNL, the provincial government’s new tool for online engagement.
