Majority of Atlantic Canadians Now Support Legal Pot for Personal Use

For the first time since tracking began in 2012 a majority of residents of Atlantic Canada favour legalization of marijuana for personal use.

The latest survey by Corporate Research Associates Inc., conducted between Nov. 7 and Dec. 1, found support in the region at 53 per cent.

The result represents a four per cent jump from a survey conducted this time last year.

Eight in ten Atlantic Canadians, meanwhile, support legalization of marijuana for medical use.

Support for medical use is consistent across the region, while personal use is higher in Nova Scotia and lower in Prince Edward Island.

A large majority of young people support legalizing marijuana for personal use with 70 per cent of residents between the ages of 18 to 34 in favour of changing the law.
