Girl Scouts Make A Cookie Bet With A San Francisco Pot Dispensary

Don’t mess with Girl Scouts, man. They will take you down.

A San Francisco dispensary learned that perennial lesson the hard way this week when a local Girl Scout troop challenged and beat them in a fundraising challenge. Another troop raised eyebrows in 2014 when they set up shop outside a different San Francisco dispensary, a move that now seems entirely savvy in the post-Prop. 64 state of California.

Television station KPIX reports that the troop challenged the Apothecarium dispensary to the fundraising contest on behalf of the “K2C” Kindergarten to College organization, which aims to create a small savings account as the start of a college fund for each child entering kindergarten in San Francisco. The “bet” between the two groups involved a batch of fresh-baked cookies. (The Apothecarium is the dispensary teaming up with former Oakland mayor Jean Quan to open a dispensary in the city’s Outer Sunset district.)

In the end, it wasn’t close: “The Troopers,” as the scouts’ team was named, nearly quadrupled the $102 raised by the Apothecarium.

“It was a great experience for me to bring my girls in front of a dispensary and have that conversation about drugs and people may be different and have certain needs,” troop mother Carol Lei told KPIX.
