Whether you are happy with legalization or not, cannabis is becoming more mainstream everyday. At Dankr.ca we were excited to hear about an annual themed croquet tournament that decided to choose cannabis as the yearly theme.
Not only was the event themed where guests showed up in costume, but also a fundraiser for charities. The charity is usually paired with the theme of the event. As cannabis has been proven to reduce the amount of opiate overdoses in US states that have legalized cannabis, Moss Park Safe Injection Site was selected to be the charity. They fight on the front lines of Toronto’s opioid crisis and have prevented over 250 overdoses.
Moss Park Overdose Prevention Site started out of a tent in Moss Park. Over time they got a trailer for the park, eventually getting federal funding for 6 months and are moving to a building. Moss Park offers clean needles, a safe environment to use drugs, supervision, access to helpful resources, and more. Unfortunately Doug Ford is looking as taking away their funding.
Dankr was approached to sponsor the croquet tournament by providing giveaway items including grinders, Highway & High Canada Magazines, a couple medical plants to show, lots of knowledge, and more accessories for people to enjoy/take home. There was also a representative from Moss Park at the event answering peoples questions about the work they do.
I should add the tournament was also sponsored by Amsterdam Brewery whom supplied the beer for the party. Through out the course of the event people deposited money to help the Moss Park injection site. At the end of the event, the money was totaled, and $1,500 was raised for Moss Park!
During the course of the event I learnt that in Ontario drug stores are giving out free Naloxone kits. (anti-opioid overdose drug) For those interested you can find all the locations carrying Naloxone kits here.
